At the end of the 2009 season, not one of the Richard Childress Racing drivers made the Chase for the Sprint Cup. Kevin Harvick ended the year 19th in points.
Hardcore race fans interested in meeting a NASCAR legend or two should plan on attending the 4th Annual Legends Helping Legends of Racing Sunday, March 14, 2010 at the Memory Lane Museum in Mooresville, North Carolina.
Each year this event honors a different legend and contributes to the Living Legends Medical Fund. Past honorees include legendary announcer Bill Connell, legendary crew chief "Suitcase" Jake Elder and former Nationwide Series champion Sam Ard.
The oldest living NASCAR Grand National champion, Rex White, will be honored at the 2010 Legends Helping Legends of Racing event. White won the 1960 NASCAR title by more than 4,000 points over Richard Petty and was selected as one of NASCAR's 50 Greatest Drivers.
Legendary World of Outlaws competitor Steve Kinser always looks forward to racing at the Houston Raceway Park in Baytown, Texas, a track where he has finished in the top-10 in each of his 14 starts at the high-banked 1/4 mile facility. Among his 14 consecutive top-10's at HRP are 11 top-fives, resulting in an average finish of 3.6 at the fast Texas track.
"I do enjoy running that race track and we've always had success there," said Kinser. "I'm looking forward to going back there this year. It is a short track, but it doesn't race like a choppy short track. It's a track that is nice and smooth and we got around there pretty well. It's a nice facility as well and a nice race track."
Kinser garnered instant success at Houston Raceway Park, winning the first World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series A-Main Feature held there in 2000.
Craig Dollansky won his first World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series A-Main Feature of the 2010 season Friday night at the Lone Star Speedway, holding off Steve Kinser to take the $10,000 victory.
“This is a great way to get this monkey that has been on our back off it,” said Dollansky. “This is a great team effort and we had to work for it. We started in the fourth row of the dash and when you can win races that way, it shows you have a strong team.”
Steve Kinser, driving the Tony Stewart Racing Maxim, finished second to record his fifth top-five of 2010.
