Patrick Sheltra knocked Steve Arpin out of the top spot late in Saturday mornings ARCA test session at the Daytona International Speedway. Steve, a Venturini Motorsports driver, had been in the top spot the longest in that run. Patrick assessed a lap of 49.502 seconds at 181.811 mph that surpassed Arpin’s 49.646 seconds at 181.283 mph lap.
"All of the guys out in Kentucky with Sheltra Motorsports have worked all winter long on this racecar," said Sheltra. "They told me I was coming here and I was going to be the fastest today when we left here and I couldn't believe it. Coming from here this past race we wrecked and ended up in the hospital and then yesterday our first lap out on the track we broke a track bar so things just weren't going well for me at Daytona but the guys told me things would be fine, keep your head up and we'll leave out of here fastest so right now that's where we are." Venturini Drivers finished the session 2nd, 3rd, and 4th lead by Mikey Kile, followed by Steve Arpin with woman driver Alli Owens close behind. The #69 of Steve Blackburn rounded out the top-5 on the charts with a 49.759 second lap at 180.872 mph.
"Whenever you're running around Daytona you're having fun regardless of whether you’re running fast or slow and we're just lucky enough to have a fast car," said Arpin. Phoenix Racing driver James Buescher was sixth fastest with a lap time of 49.833 seconds at 180.603 mph. Matt Lofton, Bobby Gerhart, Joey Coulter, and Terry Jones rounded out the top-10. In her second outing in an ARCA car, Danica Patrick wound up 25th on the charts with a lap of 50.228 seconds at 179.183 mph. Venezuelan native, Milka Duno was right behind Danica on the charts with a time of 50.242 seconds at 179.133 mph driving the Braun Racing No. 90 Toyota. Duno made history as the first Hispanic woman to test an ARCA stock car. "I've been excited about driving a stock car for years and to do so at Daytona makes it even that more special," said Duno. "I know it won't be easy my first time in the seat of a stock car and I know that there will be much to learn."
