denny-hamlinSocial networking sites are all the rage. More and more drivers, teams, sponsors and hardcore race fans are creating their own accounts on Facebook, Twitter and numerous other sites. The cool thing is that fans are able to get closer than ever to the NASCAR stars by using these new tools.

Even better are the perks they get by being fans of or following their favorite drivers.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver Denny Hamlin announced today via Twitter that he will give away free tickets through Twitter this year along with other items.

“I will be giving away a lot of cool stuff this year to my followers..tickets to races, merchandise, and maybe even some personal belongings,” he tweeted.

Talk about incentive to create your own account and follow him.

Plus, these sites give fans a constant update on where their favorite driver is and what he is up to. Some of the more active drives on Twitter besides Hamlin include Juan Pablo Montoya, Kenny Wallace and Colin Braun.

More and more drivers are creating accounts and learning the ropes on Twitter. Trevor Bayne tweeted for the first time today.

Every day NASCAR proves how friendly the sport is and how great it is to be a hardcore race fan.
