Gase To SS Green Light Development Program
Written by Aaron Colston

joey-gaseSS Green Light Racing has announced that the very talented teenager Joey Gase has signed on for a multi-series developmental program from 2010. The team is led by the three-time ASA National Champion Butch Miller who is excited for the upcoming season.

“Our test with Joey was very good. He was smooth and adapted well to a track he had never seen before,” Miller said.

The sixteen year-old from Cedar Rapids, IA, started racing go-karts at the young age of eight. He went on to win his first race in 2001 and by the time he moved into a modified in 2007, he had won several karting championships. At the age of 14 and during his first year in a modified, Gase added another victory to his record during Oktoberfest at LaCrosse Speedway in Wisconsin. Not only was it a victory, he also became the youngest driver to win during Oktoberfest in a modified.

The 2008 season presented a bright future for the young driver. He stepped up from a modified to an ASA Late Model to finish fifth in points and take the rookie of the year at his home track, Hawkeye Downs Speedway.

For yet another year, Joey stepped up his competition and really showed up on the radar.  Gase competed in the World Series of Stock Car racing at New Smyrna Speedway in February 2009. While finishing fifth in crate Late Model points at New Smyrna Speedway, he went on to be the youngest Late Model champion at his home track.

The upcoming 2010 season presents an even brighter future for the young Gase as he plans to run in multiple series including: the Pro All Star Series, the ASA Challenge Series, and also in two K&N Pro Series Races. He also plans to test for SS Green Light Racing’s NASCAR Camping World Trucks over the summer and during his off-weekends he plans to race at his home track.

“I really enjoyed the couple days I spent (testing) with Butch,” Gase said. “I think I can learn a lot from him.”

The first race the team plans to run together will take place on January 30th in the PASS Winterfest Super Late Model event at New Smyrna Raceway. A complete schedule for the upcoming season for Joey Gase and the SS Green Light Racing team will be announced shortly.
