NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers once again dominated the Nationwide Series practice session today at Homestead-Miami Speedway.
In preparation for Saturday’s Ford 300, the final race on the 2009 Nationwide Series schedule, 52 drivers practiced their cars before the Series’ qualifying session Saturday morning.
Sprint Cup veteran Jeff Burton laid down the fastest lap at 32.416 seconds at 166.584mph in his first of the twelve laps he ran during the session in the No. 29 Holiday Inn Chevrolet. Carl Edwards, also a Cup driver who is also 2nd in the Nationwide Series point standings headed into this weekend’s final race, wound up 2nd in the practice with a fast lap of 32.424 seconds at 166.543mph in his No. 60 Ortho Ford. Cup regulars Denny Hamlin, Scott Speed and Nationwide Series points leader Kyle Busch rounded out the top-5.  2003 Sprint Cup champion Matt Kenseth ended the session in 6th, followed by fellow cup driver Paul Menard. The only Nationwide driver to finish the practice in the top-10 was Mike Bliss in the No. 1 Miccosukee Indian Gaming & Resort Chevrolet. Bliss ended up 8th. Brad Keselowski, who started this year as a Nationwide regular but has since been moved up to the Cup Series full-time, ended up 9th in front of Cup rookie Joey Logano. The Nationwide Series has a second practice session at 6:30pm ET tonight which will be broadcast on SPEED. The Series’ qualifying runs will begin Saturday morning at 11:30am ET and will also be on SPEED. MORE NASCAR NEWS
