NASCAR has announced that the historic Road America course in Wisconsin has been added to the 2010 Nationwide Series schedule. Replacing the event at the Milwaukee Mile, the Road America 200 will take place on June 19, 2010 at the 4.048-mile road course.
“It’s a really great race track,” stated Paul Menard, who won at the venue in the former NASCAR RE/MAX Challenge Series in 2001. “It’s in a very picturesque setting in the Wisconsin countryside. It has every kind of corner you can imagine. When I was a kid, my dad would take me to Road America. The fans love it there.”
Road America will join Watkins Glen International and Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal as one of three road course events on schedule for the 2010 season. The Nationwide Series most recently had three stops at road courses in 2007-2008 when Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City was part of the circuit in NASCAR’s feeder series. “Road America is a very unique track that will provide great racing and will test driver skill and ability on what is a very large course,” said director of the NASCAR Nationwide Series, Joe Balash. “And yes, we’ll be prepared to race in the rain if necessary,” he commented, referring to the series’ previous duo of races in the rain at Montreal.
